DC FASHION WEEK HOSTS TEN NATIONS

Students Stimulate Local Economy

The nation’s capital’s fashion week will feature designers from Cote d'Ivoire, Hungary, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Mongolia, Mozambique, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and the United States. DC Fashion Week is September 14-21, 2008. The Ninth International Couture Collections Show will take place at the Embassy of France on September 21, 2008. 

“DC Fashion Week is regarded as the ‘United Nations’ of fashion weeks,” says its director, Ean Williams.  “Designers from all over the world will introduce their new collections.”  

The eight day event will include fashion industry networking parties, an outdoor festival showcasing local designers, designer trunk shows, and an educational seminar at the National 4-H Conference Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland.   

The seminar introduces rudimentary principles of fashion to Fairfax County high school students pursuing careers in the fashion industry.  Designers and other fashion industry professionals will speak in an interactive forum as part of this biannual event.  DC Fashion Week stimulates economic development by accompanying young consumers as they shop in Chevy Chase’s upscale retailers such as Jimmy Choo, Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus.

A partnership of independent fashion designers, producers and models, DCFASHIONWEEK creates increased economic development in the area of fashion design, clothing merchandising and modeling as well as enhances the visibility of the nation's capital as a center of international fashion. DC Fashion Week is held twice a year (February/September) and draws thousand of patrons to its shows.
